Kings Beach to Speedboat to Crystal Bay

This is another one of Lake Tahoe's best paddles. It's easy to park in the Kings Beach public lot (we got there at 10:15 and there were tons of spaces) and carry your board down to the water. There isn't a grassy place for packing the bag at the end, but its easy to do on the paved walkway.

If you enlarge the beach photo, you can see the rocks at Speedboat beach in the distance ~1-1/2 miles east. The pictures really don't do it justice.

Here's a house on the Crystal Bay side. Lots of rocks!  I think there are some cabins that belong to Cal Neva that would be worth checking out for a vacation.

Coming back around the point from Crystal Bay. There's basically a wall here where the rocks go down hundreds of feet. I sometimes see divers here. Personally I find it very creepy!  You usually get crazy waves going every direction here, but today was pretty calm.

When we got back to Kings Beach I counted 50+ paddlers and kayakers who were tooling around the beach. It was so encouraging to see so many people getting exercise and enjoying the lake in a quiet, peaceful way. Imagine if they were all on jet skiis!

Carnelian Bay to Kings Beach

Another amazing day. Hot, no wind, very little boat traffic. (Which is surprising given that next week is 4th of July).  We launched from the same place as yesterday but went in the opposite direction.

The water was very calm so we cut across Agate Bay toward Kings Beach and then followed the shoreline back. A lot of people were out on boards and kayaks (including a trip of 20 yellow kayaks).  There were also a bunch of divers out of Waterman's.

Here's a picture taken around 9:30 am - the water was amazingly flat until the last half mile.

We saw some pretty homes and Chris-Crafts, including this one that was raised by the dock. 

Not as far as yesterday but still a nice workout.

Carnelian Bay to Skylandia

A wonderful day.  Hot. Warm water. No wind. Very little boat traffic. 

We went in at the little beach by Garwoods, which is a great place to launch. Easy parking, a bathroom, and a little grassy area for drying your board at the end (if you can avoid the goose poop).

Best paddle day of my life - Kings Beach to Crystal Bay

October 12, 2012. It was the last paddle day of the year and the best paddle of my life.  Hilary and I went from Kings Beach, around Speedboat Beach, and into Crystal Bay. I haven't been to Crystal Bay before and it was very beautiful. Quite deserted around the corner from Speedboat, with turquoise water that gets deep very quickly.

 

We were out for three hours and the water was like glass. It was cold though, and we didn't want to fall in. 

It truly was the last paddling day of the season. The next morning there were whitecaps at Kings Beach at noon.  And, the day after that it snowed.
